This site is about model and prototype railroading, and features information about my layout building and operating activities, and other layouts. The era modelled is 1960s to 1990s on all the layouts mentioned below.

The C&SFT is a fictional Switching railroad located between the IHB and EJ&E mainlines near the Illinois / Indiana state line.

The Chatham Industrial RR is a fictional C&O industrial branch located in Chatham, Ontaria, Canada. It hosts C&O / Chessie and Canadian Pacific traffic.

Illinook is a 3-2-2 Inglenook style track module 4 x 1.5 feet in size, representing a hot mix asphalt plant, with trackage connecting to the C&SFT.

Case Industrial is a HO scale layout in a 2x1 feet suitcase.

My layouts have been

eBook and video

New scenery for Illinook

Over the last few weeks there has been a major scenic change on Illinook. Towards the back of the layout there was a big (in relation to the size of the layout) empty space. For quite a while I was considering what to do with the space. A family holiday provided the inspiration.

Another GE 70 Tonner

CSFT Media Release: "The CSFT has purchased another Ge 70 Ton loco to help with switching and other duties. The first GE 70 Tonner that was purchased some time ago has been doing sterling service on the CSFT, but after the GE 44 tonner was moved to the Case Industrial RR, a replacement switcher had to be found."

Inclusive or Exclusive?

I have been giving some thought recently to which era to model. This has come about because of the rollingstock I currently have specifically the box cars, many of which have walkways along the roof and therefore would not have been as common during the 1970's/80's as what they are on my layouts.

Model Railroad Operation Videos

Chatham Industrial

Case Industrial scenery detailing, operation begins!

Scenery is progressing nicely on Case Industrial. The NY Minerals area is almost 'finished', the transfer track area has had foliage and freight items added, and the gaps between them are gradually being filled in with scenic features.

Photos of the mineral hopper used to fill gondollas with coal, stone, sand, or whatever else NY Minerals ships out.

Rollingstock for Case Industrial, Industries chosen

The other day I stopped in at the local second hand store, which stocks quite a collection of model trains from the more modern variety to old Triang and Hornby trains and track.

Retaining Wall built for Case Industrial

A quick post with some pics of progress on the scenery. This one shows some photos of the retaining wall built last night.
