This site is about model and prototype railroading, and features information about my layout building and operating activities, and other layouts. The era modelled is 1960s to 1990s on all the layouts mentioned below.

The C&SFT is a fictional Switching railroad located between the IHB and EJ&E mainlines near the Illinois / Indiana state line.

The Chatham Industrial RR is a fictional C&O industrial branch located in Chatham, Ontaria, Canada. It hosts C&O / Chessie and Canadian Pacific traffic.

Illinook is a 3-2-2 Inglenook style track module 4 x 1.5 feet in size, representing a hot mix asphalt plant, with trackage connecting to the C&SFT.

Case Industrial is a HO scale layout in a 2x1 feet suitcase.

The Enduring Saga of Illinook Asphalt

When the Illinook asphalt kit was finished, I was trying to figure out the best place to put it on the Illinook module. As the tracks take up a fair proportion of the module leaving only fairly limited space for the industry, I was having a few problems working out exactly where to place the Asphalt plant on the module.

The kit is finished!

Today marked a milestone for Illinook. The Asphalt Plant kit that is the one and only industry for the Illinook module is completed! It took me about a month to build it, mostly because it was built a little here and a little there, with some extra hours kit building on Sundays where possible. The next step is to glue the various structures of the finished kit to the baseboard.

MRL in Miniature

About a year and a half ago, we moved to the town we now live in. Around the time we moved, I asked those in a Yahoo group I am a member of whether there were any members in the region we were moving to.

John informed me that he lived about an hour from the town we were moving to, and we made an appointment to meet. But that appointment was cancelled at my request.

Recent Happenings

After feeling a little isolated because of a percieved lack of retail outlets selling model railroad supplies in the town where I live, I was informed by a fellow train fellowship member that there were two places in town that sold said model railway supplies.

Illinook and Chatham Industrial Operational!

After a flurry of activity over the weekend, the Illinook module and the Chatham Industrial layout are now fully operational. On Illinook, the track was laid, wiring installed, and the module was connected up to Forest Junction on the C&SFT. I testing the configuration and it works a treat! All I needed to do to make the Chatham Industrial layout operational was do the wiring.

The model railway fellowship I am part of, known as SCRMF, is a railway group that doesn't have an actual clubhouse, but instead meets at the homes of members. This month it was at a member's home 'just down the road' from where I live and I was able to attend.

MWSL become Chatham Industrial RR

The MWSL has undergone a name and location change. It was originally designed to be attachable to my CSFT layout, but after much thought I decided I wanted to model another region with the MWSL layout.
