This site is about model and prototype railroading, and features information about my layout building and operating activities, and other layouts. The era modelled is 1960s to 1990s on all the layouts mentioned below.

The C&SFT is a fictional Switching railroad located between the IHB and EJ&E mainlines near the Illinois / Indiana state line.

The Chatham Industrial RR is a fictional C&O industrial branch located in Chatham, Ontaria, Canada. It hosts C&O / Chessie and Canadian Pacific traffic.

Illinook is a 3-2-2 Inglenook style track module 4 x 1.5 feet in size, representing a hot mix asphalt plant, with trackage connecting to the C&SFT.

Case Industrial is a HO scale layout in a 2x1 feet suitcase.

My layouts have been
featured in the
model-train-help
eBook and video
products.

Scenery appears on MWSL, citizens amazed!

Well, it had to happen eventually.

I have finally started the scenery on the 12 x 1 feet MWSL layout. And it seems there is a little bit of everything happening at once. Currently I have the following scenery items under construction:

  • A background mountain
  • A creek / drainage channel near the warehouse
  • A grain silos

Groupware, Software and Hardware

Following a hardware upgrade some months ago, and subsequent software corruption, I lost a lot of the source code for the model railroad management software I created using FreeBasic. I also took over ownership of a Virtual Interchange group that I am a member of.

The C&SFT becomes a GE Road

Recently I purchased an extra switcher for the C&SFT - a GE 70 Ton switcher. The C&SFT now has 2 of it's own switchers, as well as the SW1500 it leases from BN / Frisco. The loco is a Bachmann DCC OnBoard loco. It runs well at low speed, and it quite responsive to the throttle.

Train Museums, Magazines, Murphy's Law and Models

A visit from my dad for a few days is always seen by me as an excuse to engage in some more social aspects of railfanning / model railroading.

Railroad activities

May has been a busy month model railroad-wise.

Last Sunday the MWSL actually set up and most of the trackwork finished. The only bit of track left to do is about 1 foot to allow it to connect to my C&SFT layout. I reckon that counts as a major milestone.

The Final installment of C&SFT Op Session Video Series

The 3rd and final installment of videos for my recent YouTube video series featuring a full operating session on the C&SFT is now uploaded. Now you can view the full operating session, from episode 1 through 11.

Here are the links for episodes 9 to 11:

2nd Installment of C&SFT Op Session Videos on YouTube

When I realised that my internet was working really well (we have wireless internet which is somewhat influenced by the weather because of our location), I decided to upload the next 4 episodes of the series to YouTube rather than wait till next week.

So here are the links to go directly to episodes 5 through 8:
